The Missal The Word of God is reborn to continue accompanying the faith

El Misal La Palabra de Dios renace para seguir acompañando la fe

Paulinas Colombia |

On life's journey, many books come and go, but others accompany us, illuminate us, motivate us, and transform us. Some remain silent in a library, waiting to be opened someday. Others, however, become companions on our path: they open at dawn, in those moments when the heart seeks a word of light; they open again at the end of the day, when the soul needs to understand what has been experienced; and often they remain close, like a burning lamp reminding us that God continues to speak in the midst of our story, with its light and its shadows.

For almost 30 years, the missal The Word of God from our Paulinas publishing house has been for countless believers precisely that: A daily companion of faith, prayer and encounter with the Lord .

Today, with hearts full of gratitude and hope, we want to present our new look to you all. This renewal stems from deep reflection, study, and attentive listening to the needs of each of our readers. Since an internal discernment process regarding our production and content began at the end of last year, it has renewed our desire to continue accompanying you and bringing the Word of God to your homes, workplaces, and communities each day. We think especially of all those who have found daily nourishment for their spiritual growth through this publication.

The liturgy: a place where God continues to speak

Christian faith cannot and should not be nourished merely by speculation or simple emotion. It is called to be nourished by a living encounter with the Word of God, which gives reason and foundation to our way of life.

Each day, in the liturgy of the Church, the Scriptures are proclaimed anew, not as a mere recollection of something past, but as a living word that continues to illuminate the present. For this reason, from the earliest centuries, the Christian community persevered in communion, in the breaking of bread, and in prayer (cf. Acts 2:42). The liturgy thus became a true spiritual school , where God forms the hearts of his people. In this context, the missal is not just another book. It is a door that allows us to enter more deeply into the mystery that the Church celebrates each day, and it is Christ himself who guides and walks with his people.

An example that can enlighten us is that presented by the Evangelist Saint Luke, when he narrates the passage of the disciples on the road to Emmaus. They were walking back to their hometown with great sadness and confusion after the death of their Master. Then the Risen Lord approached and began to explain the Scriptures to them. Only later would they understand what was happening and say among themselves:

“Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” (Lk 24:32).

The Word of God: food for life

The Church has always recognized the centrality of Sacred Scripture in the Christian life. For example, the Second Vatican Council clearly stated this in the constitution Dei Verbum , reaffirming that the Church has always venerated the divine Scriptures as she venerates the Body of the Lord , because in them, God himself encounters his people. Therefore, the Council strongly encourages all the faithful to have frequent contact with the Word of God and to learn to nourish themselves on it in prayer.

Knowing the Scriptures is not simply about memorizing biblical texts. Rather, it is about listening, welcoming, and opening one's life to be completely transformed. The Church Fathers deeply understood this truth. St. Jerome affirmed: “Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ.” And St. Augustine, for his part, reminded us that when the Church proclaims and celebrates the liturgy, it is Christ himself who speaks to his people.

For this reason, Christian Tradition has developed spiritual paths such as Lectio Divina , an ancient practice that invites us to read, meditate on, pray with, and contemplate the Word of God. In this daily experience of deep listening and dialogue with God, the missal becomes a concrete aid so that Scripture is not reserved for extraordinary moments, but rather accompanies the believer's life every day.

A daily companion in faith

In a world marked by speed, dispersion, and information overload, many people experience a deep need to find spaces of silence where it is possible to hear a word that gives meaning to existence.

The Word of God responds precisely to this search. It illuminates daily decisions, accompanies us in moments of difficulty, and opens horizons of hope even amidst the uncertainties of the present time. The missal , The Word of God, seeks to continue being that bridge between the concrete lives of people and the living presence of God manifested in the liturgy of the Church. Each page invites us to pause, to open our hearts, and to allow the Word to transform our perspective on reality.

The Word continues to touch lives

For years, the missal The Word of God has been a simple yet profoundly valuable tool for those who have wished to experience the Church's liturgy more consciously. Many faithful have found in its pages a way to prepare for Sunday Mass, to follow the daily readings, or to dedicate a few minutes of their day to personal prayer.
In various cities, parishes, homes, and religious communities, this missal has become a bridge between daily life and liturgical celebration, allowing one to savor and embrace the mystery of eternity. There you can find:

  • The daily Bible readings.
  • The ordinary of the Mass.
  • The saint of the day, based on his relationship and experience with the Word of God.
  • Lectio Divina, with its respective moments of prayer and reflection.
  • Pope's monthly intention.
  • Prayer.

What has been mentioned above allows us to understand that the liturgy is not something distant or occasional, but a spiritual experience that accompanies daily life. Thus, the liturgical year unfolds its richness: the anticipation of Advent, the joy of Christmas, the path of conversion during Lent, the light of Easter, and the hope that accompanies Ordinary Time. Each day brings with it a new Word that illuminates the path .

To be reborn with new strength

The missal , The Word of God, seeks to remain precisely that humble and faithful aid for those who wish to walk each day with the Church and with the Word. In a time when so many voices compete for our attention, returning to the Word of God is always an act of hope. It means recognizing that, beyond the noise and the rush, there is a voice capable of guiding human history and renewing the hearts of those who hear it.

May this renewed missal continue to help many believers rediscover the beauty of listening to God each day. And may every reader, upon opening its pages, experience what the disciples of Emmaus felt: that their hearts burn within them when the Lord explains the Scriptures and walks beside them. For when the Word continues to touch lives, there are always reasons to begin again.
